CBS to Develop 24-Hour Streaming News Video Service
CBS is developing a 24-hour digital video service, BuzzFeed reports. For a while now, the interactive and news branches of CBS have been developing the video service with the intention of streaming news reporting as well as content from its archives.
CBS is currently working with several distributors who are interested in picking up the 24-hour video service. However, no distributors have officially signed on yet.
Unnamed sources tell BuzzFeed that CBS News president David Rhodes wants the service to stream 24/7 news on mobile devices. The streaming service will most likely be available on the standard devices, including smartphones, tablets, game consoles, and smart TVs. Additionally, streaming may be supported on platforms like Hulu Plus or YouTube.
Although the idea of a 24-hour streaming news service seems like a good way to attract news-hungry cord-cutters, CBS is also looking into developing original programming for the streaming service. It’s rumored that CBS may bring on additional staff to help develop the original content, but much of that is contingent on what the service’s overall business plan will be.Tags: CBS, live streaming, mobile news, News
