CDS, StyleHaul, Defy Media Join 2015 Newfronts Lineup; Microsoft Exits
The IAB has extended the 2015 Digital Content Newfronts calendar as more companies want to present during this year’s showcase — and one does not.
New presenters include YouTube networks like Collective Digital Studio, Endemol Beyond, Defy Media, StyleHaul, and Whistle Sports, as well as publishers such as Beatport, Bloomberg Media, DailyMail’s Elite Daily, Lin Digital, and TheStreet.com.
Overall, the number of presenters have increased by 50% when compared to last year, and as a result, the IAB has added another day to the calendar. Presentations will now run from April 27 through May 7.
Among the notable networks, Endemol Beyond and Defy Media are returning to the Newfronts (Defy for a third time after taking last year off), while this will be the first official Newfront event hosted by CDS, StyleHaul, and Whistle Sports.
The Newfronts will once again be anchored by presentations from five of its six “founding” partners — AOL, DigitasLBi, Hulu, Yahoo, and Google/YouTube. The remaining founding partner, Microsoft, is sitting this year out (which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise following the company’s decision to shut down Xbox Entertainment Studios and re-focus on its core businesses.)
This will be the fourth annual Digital Content Newfronts, and the third to be overseen by the IAB. The Newfronts were originally set up in 2012 as an industry-wide event for major online video producers, networks, and publishers to present their video content and solutions to advertisers in the “upfront” manner long used by the TV industry. It also doubled as an opportunity for important sayers and doers in digital video talk about the progress the industry was making as it sought to attract TV-sized ad spend.
“Digital video is today’s go-to for consumers looking not only for innovative programming, but for all content, long form or short,” said Anna Bager, SVP of mobile and video at the IAB, in a statement. “It brought in $1.5 billion dollars in ad revenue in the first half of 2014 alone, a double-digit increase over the same time the year before – confirming the fact that marketers see great value in tapping into its highly-engaged audiences.”
