CES 2015: YouTube Goes 360, Martial Arts Flicks Find New Home, and More
The first official day of CES brought forth a bunch of announcements. Here are a few more that you might have missed, but should certainly be aware of:
YouTube announced that it will go all the way—360 degrees, that is. Rather, Giroptic, which manufactures 360-degree HD cameras, announced that YouTube would adapt to the technology with YouTube 360, a video format that will let creators shoot 360-degree video and upload it to the platform, where viewers can explore the surround-watching capabilities through their desktop and mobile devices. The Giroptic cameras can produce 2K videos and is currently on display at CES.
NanoTech Entertainment (NTEK) announced a partnership with Iron Dragon Productions, a production company focused on martial arts content. As a result, NanoTech’s 4K Studios will offer the Iron Dragon TV channel app on smart TVs and Roku, as well as iOS and Android devices. Content on the channel will include films such as “The King of Fighters,” “Shaolin,” and “1911,” which stars Jackie Chan.
Firefox’s Matchstick streaming stick announced that it’s joining up with TCL and Philips/AOC. The Firefox OS TV also debuted Flint, which will let users cast video content to their TVs that they can control from their mobile phones. The technology will work with all kinds of viewing systems and could be available in the second quarter of 2015. Meanwhile, the new partnership with TCL and Philips/AOC means increased opportunity for distributing devices that will work with Flint, like TVs, set-top boxes, and monitors.
