Chinese Online Video Giant Youku Tudou Makes Two Key Hires
Chinese online video giant Youku Tudou has made two high-level additions to its executive team.
As the newly minted chief product officer, Teddy Gu will responsible for the company’s product strategy and operations, and lead its direct-to-consumer business. He is the first CPO at Youku Tudou since the company was formed as a result of a merger in 2012.
Gu comes to Youku Tudou from Chinese internet giant Tencent, where he was most recently VP of JD.com, overseeing its wireless business. Gu held various roles during his time at Tencent, including deputy GM of Tencent’s e-commerce business, and a senior position at 51Buy, a business-to-consumer branch of Tencent.
Of note, Tencent is a rival of Alibaba, which recently opened to the biggest IPO ever. Alibaba is also a major investor in Youku Tudou alongside the private equity firm Yunfeng Capital, which was itself founded by Alibaba executive chairman Jack Ma.
Joining Gu is Jerry Li, who has been hired as a senior vice president for Youku Tudou. In the role, Li will be responsible for talent management and corporate business development. Prior to Youku Tudou, Li was VP of AsiaInfo Group, where he oversaw talent management, organizational development, and “key investments projects” in startup companies in the mobile internet, cloud computing, and big data fields.Tags: Alibaba, China, Exec Moves, Jack Ma, Jerry Li, Movers, Teddy Gu, Tencent, youku tudou
