Cinedigm and Wizard World Conjure Up Digital Comic-Con Network

/ Feb 13, 2014

Cinedigm is partnering with Wizard World, an organizer of numerous Comic-Cons (but not the one in San Diego), to launch a new digital network for geeks.

Cinedigm, which manages a library of over 33,000 films and TV episodes and 650 digital content partnerships, promises to seed the network year-round with “compelling” content.

Specifically, the as-of-yet-unnamed network will offer films, TV episodes, and original online programming targeted to 18- to 44-year-old consumers. This includes titles from Cinedigm’s 2,000-episode-strong anime library, as well as other content spanning genres like sci-fi, horror, fantasy, action, adventure, gamer, animation, and comedy.

Cinedigm also boasts of its in-house acquisitions team, which will support in finding new films, series, and digital programming to add to the network.

The new network will offer free ad-supported content as well as a premium subscription option, which will feature exclusive access to events, panels, talent, and other content from the Comic-Cons operated by Wizard World. For its part, Wizard World says it has already started compiling “top panels and talent from Comic-Cons nationwide” to publish to the network.

It also will continue filming at upcoming Comic-Cons, with the goal of bringing a total of 150-200 hours of new footage 2014 alone. Wizard World is scheduled to host 16 Comic-Cons in 2014, with even more planned for 2015.

With a focus on something like Comic-Con, merchandising can’t be too far away. And it won’t be, as the two partners plan to build an e-commerce experience tied to the network. This shopping experience will allow viewers to purchase collectible items and other exclusive merchandise. Wizard World says it’s already tapping its vendor, exhibitor, and artist relationships to offer exclusive items to fans.
