Colby Smith Promoted to VP of ABC News Digital
Colby Smith has been promoted to vice president of ABC News Digital. He succeeds Joe Ruffolo who’s departing for “new opportunities in Burbank,” according to ABC News president James Goldston.
In the role, Smith will be responsible for “identifying innovative ways” to grow ABC News content across ABCNews.com, social channels, mobile, and emerging platforms, Goldston continued. This includes video, which ABC News is placing more of an emphasis on going forward.
Smith originally joined ABC News in 2011. Prior to the promotion, he was director of business development for ABC News Digital, and played an “vital” role in helping the organization secure distribution deals with Hulu Plus, Apple TV, and other video and platform partners.
Ruffolo, meanwhile, will remain within the ABC family; transitioning to support the DATG senior team in Burbank.Tags: ABC News, ABC News Digital, Colby Smith, Exec Moves, Joe Ruffolo, Movers
