CollegeHumor Gets ‘Weirder’ with New YouTube Channel
CollegeHumor has launched a new channel on YouTube called CH2, which will focus on offbeat, experimental videos.
As part of the launch, the comedy brand is teaming up with who it calls the “funniest, freshest, and not too busy-est people on the internet” to create a continuous series of live-action sketches, animated videos, and music videos for the channel. This will include quirky passion projects from CollegeHumor’s homegrown talent, as well as programming that stars recognizable names from the traditional comedy world.
For instance, the channel already features an original video produced by and starring Elaine Carroll (CollegeHumor’s “Very Mary-Kate and Precious Plum”), as well as a new episode of “Sock or Hat” featuring “SNL” alum Will Forte. Videos in the pipeline include projects from one of the newest “SNL” writers, Alison Rich, music comedy sketch group Pop Roulette, and various talents from the UCB Theatre, iO West, and Second City.
In addition to getting weird, CH2 will also look to be a platform of sorts for CollegeHumor to discover, collaborate with, and nurture emerging comedy stars. This is essentially an expansion of the invite-only CollegeHumor Grants Program, which was established by the site to help emerging comedians and filmmakers fund their projects.
“Some of the most popular series and characters throughout CollegeHumor’s history have originated from taking risks and trying new things,” said Sam Reich, president of Big Breakfast, a division of CollegeHumor. Reich established CollegeHumor’s original video department and oversees production for both CollegeHumor and CH2.
