Comedy Central Orders Pilot from Sketch Comedy Duo BriTANicK
In the past year, Comedy Central has made a habit out of snatching successful online video creators and properties to develop new original TV shows. Here’s the latest: Sketch comedy duo BriTANicK (Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney) are scripting a half-hour comedy pilot for the cable network.
First reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the TV show, which is also titled “BriTANicK,” will also star Kocher and McElhaney as fictional best friends who routinely get into ridiculous situations that are partly based on their real lives. In the pilot, Kocher’s character fakes his own death to get out of a relationship, while McElhaney tries to buy his way back into one.
Kocher and McElhaney are also executive producing the pilot alongside Troy Miller (“Arrested Development,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), who will direct.
BriTANicK are one of the more well-known online sketch comedy groups in the comedy circuit. Their YouTube channel, partnered with Broadway Video’s comedy network Above Average, has more than 240,000 subscribers.
If picked up for series, “BriTANicK” would join other web-to-TV franchises on Comedy Central, including “Broad City,” which was recently renewed for a second season, and the Funny or Die-produced “Drunk History.”Tags: Above Average, BriTANicK, broadway video, Comedy Central, Pilot order, web to tv
