Comedy Central’s Digital Studio Bolsters Programming with Six New Originals

/ Nov 5, 2013

Comedy Central’s digital studio, CC: Studios, is adding six new original shows to its existing slate of comedy programming. The comedy cable channel has also renewed three of its digital originals as well.

The six new shows, plus the three renewed, will air on CC: Studios’ variety of platforms, including Comedy Central Radio, Comedy Central Records, CC:Direct, and various VOD services.

The digital studio will work with a massive roster of top-tier comedians while developing the originals. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jillian Bell and Charlotte Newhouse of “Workaholics” are working with CC: Studios to develop “Idiotsitter,” a show about a young woman who must babysit a childish adult heiress.

Veteran comedian Kurt Braunohler is also said to be working with CC: Studios on an untitled meta-talk show in which guests are interviewed “gonzo-style” in strange locations.

Maiden CC: Studios’ originals “Bro-Dependent,” “This Is Not Happening,” and “The Walsh Brothers’ Great & Secret Comedy Show” will also be returning for a second season.

The full slate of CC: Studios’ upcoming comedy shows can be seen below (via THR):

• “Biatches” (working title): Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov (“Punk’d,” “Good Vibes”) wrote and star in this animated series about bad girls kicked out of middle school and forced to attend the special education students program, which isn’t going to stop them from wreaking their raunchy brand of havoc.

• “Idiotsitter”: Charlotte Newhouse and Jillian Bell (“Workaholics”) created and star in a show about a straight-and-narrow young woman (Newhouse) who is hired to babysit a mega-rich woman child (Bell) who has been left alone in her daddy’s mansion under house arrest.

• “The Midnight Beast”: Ashley Horne, Dru Wakely and Stefan Abingdon are hip-hop comedy group The Midnight Beast. Already blowing up in the U.K. and on YouTube for their parody music videos, the guys are ready to leap across the pond and partner with CC: Studios.

• “Pixelheads”: CC:Studios has partnered with GameTrailers to produce and distribute a video game focused animated sketch series. Segments feature Steve Agee, Rich Fulcher, Jordan Morris,Ron Funches, Brent Morin, Peter Giles, Andrew Bachelor, H. Michael Croner and Matt Cook.

• “Strong Island”: Creators and co-stars Jon Gabrus and Justin Tyler portray two brothers living at home with their mom on Long Island. The series is part of a multiplatform deal Gabrus and Tyler inked with Comedy Central. The cast also includes Artemis Pebdani (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and Kevin “Dot Com” Brown (“30 Rock”).

• Untitled Kurt Braunohler: The untitled Kurt Braunohler project is a multiformat interview show where each guest is interviewed gonzo-style in unexpected locations.

CC: Studios launched back in January, helmed by Allison Kingsley, a former VP of digital at Ovation.
