Conde Nast Reshuffles Digital and Video Teams

Fred Santarpia, the former Vevo executive who was hired by Conde Nast to help build its digital video business, is transitioning to a new role at the company. Executive vice president and chief digital officer of the company’s Conde Nast Entertainment division since 2012, Santarpia will now serve as EVP and chief digital officer of all of Conde Nast.

In the newly created role, Santarpia will be responsible for “building and executing the company’s enterprise-wide strategy across digital, mobile, and emerging platforms to expand the reach of its brands,” said Conde Nast in the announcement.

The move comes after Santarpia’s efforts in building Conde Nast’s digital video business, which now encompasses 14 channels and an owned-and-operated platform (The Scene), which have combined to generate 1.5 billion video views since last year.

“The success of the company’s digital video strategy is a testament to Fred’s leadership and the hard work of the digital team at CNE,” said Conde Nast president Robert A. Sauerberg in a statement. “With this appointment, we look to Fred to extend his strong digital vision to the rest of the company.”

Prior to CNE, Santarpia was GM of Vevo. A member of the music-video company’s founding leadership, Santarpia headed all operations covering audience development and video syndication, social media and marketing strategy, revenue, and original content and programming.

With his move, a new GM of digital video will be named for CNE, which is led by the division’s president Dawn Ostroff.

Santarpia isn’t the only Conde Nast executive changing roles at the company, which is also restructuring its digital sales organization under Edward Menicheschi, CMO and president of the Conde Nast Media Group. Effective immediately, CNE’s revenue chief Lisa Valentino will expand her role to lead digital sales for all of Conde Nast. She will report to both Menicheschi and Ostroff, and will work alongside Josh Stinchcomb, who has been named SVP of sales and strategy. Stinchcomb will oversee brand-related efforts, advertising, and revenue operations and partnerships, Conde Nast said.

All of this also means that Conde Nast CTO Joe Simon is leaving the company. He is but the latest executive to leave the company. This summer, CFO John Bellando and CRO Lou Cona both left the company, replaced by former Time Inc. executive David Geithner and Menicheschi, respectively.
