EXCLUSIVE: Hearst Hires Corey Moss to Grow Digital Video Business

Corey Moss, a top digital executive at Principato-Young Entertainment, is leaving the firm to help grow the video business at Hearst.

PYE’s SVP of digital and production will soon be joining Hearst, where he will be tasked with overseeing the development and production of digital programming within the company’s Hearst Digital Studios arm. Remaining in LA, his responsibilities will span scripted and non-scripted projects, as well as branded content.

By all accounts, the role — SVP of development and production — looks to be an important one at Hearst, which wants to significantly expand its footprint in digital video.

A few weeks ago, the company debuted CosmoBody, a subscription VOD digital channel — its first — focused on health-and-fitness lifestyle videos. Available for $9.95 per month, the channel features content produced by Mark Burnett’s VIMBY Studios as well as daily videos from the Cosmopolitan editorial staff. Neeraj Khemlani, head of Hearst Digital Studios and co-president of Hearst Entertainment & Syndication, likened the channel to a “Netflix for fitness and lifestyle content.”

And that’s what Hearst is looking to do: build multiple digital channels based on its own publications or with external partners, with each offering a variety of original and exclusive content. Moss will oversee this, while reporting to Khemlani.

At Principato-Young Entertainment, Moss developed and sold more than 30 digital series — paired with many of the firm’s clients — to a variety of digital networks. These include shows like “Tiny Commando” (Ed Helms, Zachary Levi) and “We Need Help” (Cheryl Hines, Rachael Harris) for Yahoo, as well as “Anthony Eats America” (Anthony Anderson) for AOL and “Coogan Auto” (Rob Riggle, JB Smoove) for Electus’ Loud label. More recent projects include “Ithamar Has Nothing to Say,” which is being produced by comedians Key & Peele for Maker Studios.

In a statement, Hearst said PYE will “will continue to work with Moss and HDS to develop new digital video projects around its robust talent roster.”

Prior to PYE, Moss was an executive producer at Yahoo, and behind the site’s long-running web series “Primetime in No Time.”
