Corey Vidal to Launch YouTube Festival in Canada

/ Sep 4, 2013

VidCon is widely recognized as the top annual event where YouTubers and their fans come together to celebrate the communities that exist on the world’s biggest video site. Now it appears Corey Vidal, a prominent YouTube creator and filmmaker with more than 220,000 subscribers, is looking to do something similar north of the border.*

Vidal and his production company ApprenticeA Productions is launching the Buffer Festival, describing it as the “world’s first festival dedicated to showcasing video content from some ofthe best creative talent on YouTube.”

The event will be held this year from November 8-10, and will take place across four venues in Toronto: TIFF Bell Lightbox, Scotiabank Theatre, Glenn Gould Studio, and the Jane Mallett Theatre.

“I am very excited to combine the YouTube experience with a theatrical setting. There is so much incredible content being made specifically for YouTube, and as a full-time YouTuber I am delighted to showcase some of that talent,” said Corey Vidal, who serves as the Buffer Festival’s executive producer and founder of Buffer Festival.

Presented by ApprenticeA Productions and co-produced with the Canadian Film Centre’s Media Lab, the festival will feature 50 feature-length “shows” over its three days. The shows will be one of two types: themed screenings that highlight YouTube content across broad genres, or screenings of a YouTuber’s work presented by another top YouTuber. In some cases, YouTube stars presenting at the Festival will premiere new content.

YouTube stars scheduled to appear include The Fine Brothers, Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, Michael Buckley, Jesse Wellens (PrankvsPrank), and Vidal himself.

Buffer Festival partners include YouTube, Contiki, Blue Ant Media, Canon, TIFF Next Wave Committee, Cineplex Entertainment, and

The full schedule will be available on September 23. Tickets will be priced at $15 for individual screenings, with packages available for multiple shows/days.

* Vidal spoke on a crowdfunding-centric panel I moderated at VidCon — one of the easiest panels I’ve ever been involved with as all of the speakers were very forthcoming and willing to offer actual tips and advice.
