Cristiano Ronaldo Docu-Film Premieres Exclusively on Vimeo
Vimeo has acquired global digital rights to “Cristiano Ronaldo: The World at His Feet,” a documentary about the famous Portuguese soccer star narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch.
Following the life of Ronaldo, from his upbringing to the central role that he plays for the Real Madrid and the Portuguese national soccer teams, the film aims to provide a complete picture of one of the biggest soccer players in the world. The documentary includes an exclusive interview with the star, as well as with contemporaries like Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney, managers such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho, and even soccer legends David Beckham and Pele.
The film was produced and directed by Tara Pirina of Future Sight Entertainment, and produced by Tony Taglienti of Starx Entertainment.
“This truly unique look into the life of an iconic footballer and the icons which were influential to his success was just completed last week,” said Lise Romanoff, managing director and CEO of Vision Films, which owns the worldwide distribution rights to the documentary, in a statement.
Now it’s being made available on Vimeo, which has been active in acquiring films for its direct-to-consumer Video On Demand service.
The film should also get some traction on Vimeo — especially in the US — as Portugal is set to square-off against the US this weekend in the World Cup.
“Cristiano Ronaldo: The World at His Feet” is available worldwide for purchase at $14.99, or rental at $4.99. As part of the global release, the film has been translated into Portuguese, French, Spanish, and German.
The deal between Vimeo and Vision Films was brokered by Romanoff and Sam Totes, VP of content acquisitions and business development for Vimeo.
