Danny Zappin’s Zealot Networks Continues Buying Spree

Danny Zappin’s Zealot Networks has acquired two LA-based marketing agencies as the startup expands its portfolio to include branded entertainment services.

Venice-based Neighbor Agency is a full-service marketing firm run by founder and president Linda Price. Its clients include Tillamook, Pinkberry, and Liberty School Wines.

Idea Farmer, which is run by founder Josh Beane, is a content studio that partners with agencies and brands to develop multi-platform branded content. Its clients include Endemol, Pulse Films, and KitchenAid.

Both companies will now operate as independent subsidiaries of Zealot, which was founded by Zappin, the former CEO of Maker Studios, to build a multi-faceted digital media business that spans content production, talent management, brand services, distribution, and monetization.

In recent months, Zealot has acquired JB Smoove’s talent agency Converge Media Group, sports talent and marketing firm PSE, and content licensing business AudioMicro. The overall goal is to allow each portfolio company to continue operating as is, while also finding ways for them to partner and package services to generate more revenue.

“Both companies are distinctive in their creative approach having crafted and executed high-impact, digital-centric campaigns for great brands such as JambaJuice, CLIF/Luna Bar, California Pizza Kitchen, Whirlpool’s luxury brand Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, and many others,” said Zappin in a statement. “I’m looking forward to the powerful synergies and IP that we can create together.”

“The opportunity to provide deeper and broader value to our client partners through the Zealot proposition and portfolio of companies is a very attractive growth driver opportunity for us,” said Neighbor Agency’s Price. “We see the future of branded content development and best in class integrated marketing programs requiring new resources beyond what stand alone agencies such as ours have been able to provide.”

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Zealot is backed by $30 million in funding from Zappin and a slew of former Maker Studios executives and talent, as well as British broadcasting giant ITV Studios.
