Danny Zappin’s Zealot Networks Buys Sports Management Firm PSE

Zealot Networks

Former Maker Studios CEO Danny Zappin’s new venture, Zealot Networks, continues growing. The company has acquired Premier Sports & Entertainment, a Santa Monica-based sports and entertainment management and marketing firm.

Per the deal, PSE clients, which include Super Bowl-winning coach Pete Carroll, will now have access to client services offered by Zealot and its portfolio companies. This includes the ability for PSE clients to connect and partner with “like-minded brands and entrepreneurs” on various endeavors, the companies said.

Zealot describes itself as a “digital-first media company and growth accelerator that empowers creative entrepreneurs by delivering multi-platform revenue, distribution, and development opportunities.” The overall goal, it seems, is to own digital businesses across a broad range of services, including talent management, content production, and monetization.

Last month, Zealot acquired content licensing firm AudioMicro, which owns YouTube music monetization specialists AdRev, which will be at the “core” of Zealot’s Music + Entertainment division, Zappin said at the time.

PSE will also join the Music + Entertainment team.

In addition to representing a network of sports coaches and athletes, PSE also offers entertainment services spanning representation, TV, event planning, marketing, corporate/tax law, and international finance.

“We look forward to leveraging [Zealot’s] expertise as we continue to provide an unparalleled level of service to our clients, while simultaneously growing our sports management practice, both organically and through strategic acquisitions and hires,” said Gary Uberstine, CEO of PSE, in a statement.

Originally backed by some $25 million in funding from Zappin and a crew of former Maker Studios executives and talent, Zealot recently secured an investment from British broadcaster ITV, bringing the company’s total to $30 million. This money will be used to support the building out of Zealot’s digital studio as well as continued M&A activity.
