Digital multi-channel network Endemol Beyond USA has hired David B. Williams as chief content and technology strategist. In the role, he will be responsible for developing and executing “state-of-the-art strategies that leverage content and technology to build audiences, grow brands, and drive revenue.”

He will report to Endemol Beyond USA president Will Keenan.

Most recently, Williams was the founder and CEO of Volectro, a consulting firm that helps media companies develop digital distribution strategies and video-centric mobile apps. Clients have included Maker as well as Alloy Digital. (Williams has also written a couple of well-received guest columns for us, which you can revisit here and here.)

Prior to Volectro, he spent three-and-a-half years at Disney, where he was VP of entertainment and platforms for Disney Online Originals. During his time at Disney, Williams also co-founded Take180, a digital studio and YouTube network.

(At Disney, Williams also worked with Chris Williams, his brother, who’s now the chief audience officer at Maker Studios.)

Endemol Beyond USA’s network currently generates more than 250 million views on YouTube per month, according to the company.

Last week, the company signed a deal with YouTube beauty giant Michelle Phan to help develop and build out her beauty and lifestyle network FAWN, as well as take her brand to other media platforms. Other creators within the Endemol Beyond USA umbrella include kid-rapper MattyB, “Sopranos” star Drea de Matteo, music royalty Julian Lennon, and Vine star Brittany Furlan.

Endemol wants to be referred to as a “premium talent network,” according to Keenan. Speaking during his company’s intimate Newfront event last week, Keenan said Endemol Beyond USA has no interest in scaling by aggregating channels and creators. “I think we have the opportunity to create the new era’s star studio system. We can bring all these stars in and do things with them.”

“What we are for talent is a multi-media platform capable of taking them from YouTube to off YouTube, to television, and beyond,” added Endemol North America co-chairman and co-CEO Charlie Corwin.

Williams’ new gig will be to assist in those efforts.
