Digital Video Ad Sharing Has Increased 50 Times in Eight Years
Last time we checked in with Unruly Media, the video technology company had discovered that “Dove Beauty Sketches,” a viral ad for the company Dove, was the most shared online advertisement in the world. Following in the vein of digital video advertising, Unruly has found that the sharing of video ads has increased almost 50 times since 2006.
Using brands like Pepsi, Nike, Volkswagen, and Dove as a template, Unruly has determined that ad sharing is growing by exponential amounts. In 2013 alone, 40% of the top 20 most shared ads of all time were released. Looking at Dove, we see that one of the beauty company’s early ads, “Evolution,” was shared 60,954 in 2006. Compared to “Dove Beauty Sketches,” which was shared 4.24 million times in 2013, we see that people are watching and sharing ads more than ever.
Measuring ad sharing over 8 years, Unruly determined that DC Shoes has the most shared ads of any brand. The company’s 4-part Gymkhana series is credited for this achievement, as it has been shared over 10.7 million times.
Unruly has released an interactive infographic charting the most shared ads from 2006 – 2013, which doesn’t want to embed at the moment, so you can check it out here instead.
