Discovery Augments Shark Week with Web-Only Video Content
To coordinate with the return of Shark Week to Discovery on August 4, Discovery and the National Aquarium will hold a Google+ Hangout from the bottom of their blacktip reef shark exhibit on the same day at 11 pm ET hosted by iJustine, “Shark After Dark” host Josh Wolf, and aquarium experts. The hangout will be available on the Google+ pages for both the Discovery Channel and National Aquarium, the Discovery Channel’s YouTube account, and the Shark Week online hub. In the meantime, using the #SharkWeekHangout hashtag on Google+, Facebook, or Twitter enters users to have their question answered during the hangout.
Discovery will also be premiering a special “webisode” called “Great White Triangle” (available at the aforementioned online hub), named after an area off the coast of California favored by great white sharks for the overabundance of seals, otters, and sea lions. It’s set to follow professional photographer Andy Casagrande while he tests a brand-new underwater mobile shark cage called the Pelagic Explorer.
Finally, Discovery has partnered with the National Aquarium to offer 24/7 access to the aquarium’s new blacktip reef shark exhibit, available only online. But besides views of blacktip reef sharks, the exhibit also plays host to a 500-lb turtle, and the Shark Cam (to be available at sharkweek.com/sharkcam) feed will also feature informative talks from aquarium experts.Tags: discovery, ijustine, Shark Week, the discovery channel, webisode
