Discovery Unveils Multi-Platform Plans Ahead of Nik Wallenda’s Next High-Wire Stunt
As expected, Discovery is going all-out for its next major live event with high-wire artist Nik Wallenda.
The man who’s crossed Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon now has his sights set on the Chicago skyline. On November 2, he’s expected to attempt a two-part walk between two skyscrapers in the Windy City. The event, which will be broadcast live in more than 220 countries by Discovery, will start at 7pm ET on November 2.
Before the event, Discovery has multiple digital activations planned to get viewers sufficiently ready for the death-defying feat.
First, the company has launched SkyscraperLive.com, a new digital hub covering all things Wallenda and Chicago. Available in 60 countries and 14 languages, the site was built by the same Discovery Channel team that won an Interactive Emmy for the “Skywire Live” multi-platform experience associated with Wallenda’s most recent stunt.
Beginning 6pm ET on November 2, an hour before the live TV broadcast, SkyscraperLive.com will be the home to “Wired In,” a live stream hosted by Chris Jacobs that will provide behind-the-scenes updates from Chicago as Wallenda makes final preparations for the walk.
Prior to that, Discovery is also launching the “Road to Skyscraper” digital series, which will provide unprecedented access to Wallenda as he gets ready for the stunt, the company said. Fans will be able to go behind the scenes and access details about the event from Wallenda, the show’s producers, and even the SkyscraperLive.com designers.
As for the event itself, Discovery has tamed with three “Vine photojournalists,” who will take over the @SkyscraperLive handle and provide coverage of the event from the ground.Tags: Companion Web Series, Discovery Channel, Discovery Communications, Nik Wallenda
