Dish’s Internet-TV Service Now Has Cable’s Biggest Show
We still don’t know how well Dish Network’s Sling TV is doing in terms of customers. The internet-TV service, which allows people to subscribe to a collection of live and on-demand TV channels delivered over the web, went live just under a month ago with the goal of providing cord-cutters and cord-nevers access to TV content without breaking the bank.
The key to Sling TV’s success is, of course, in offering the channels that people want to watch. At launch, Sling TV boasted ESPN, the biggest channel in the pay-TV business. Now, it also has AMC, which airs the biggest show on cable TV.
Starting today, Sling TV says AMC and IFC are now included in its core “Best of Live TV” package, which is available for $20 per month. Those who subscribe will now have access to all of the AMC’s original programming, such as the smash-hit “The Walking Dead,” as well as the critically acclaimed dramas “Mad Men” (which premieres its final season on April 5) and “Better Call Saul.” With IFC, Sling TV can now also offer “Portlandia,” another favorite among cord-cutters and cord-nevers.
Dish’s carriage deal with AMC also covers over-the-top access to a few other channels, including BBC America, BBC World News, and WE tv. Details on when these channels will be made available will be announced in the coming weeks, said Sling TV.
In total, the “Best of Live TV” package now offers ESPN, ESPN2, AMC, TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, IFC, El Rey, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, ABC Family, Disney Channel, CNN, and Galavision.
Sling TV also offers various “add-on” bundles priced at $5 per month each. The service is adding to that offering, too, via a deal with the premium movie network Epix. Per the deal, the Epix, Epix 2, Epix 3, Epix Drive-In, and Sundance TV channels will be added to the “Hollywood Extra” bundle. Other add-on bundles focus on sports, kids, and news programming.Tags: ABC Family, Adult Swim, AMC, BBC, BBC America, BBC World News, better call saul, cartoon network, CNN, Dish Network, Disney Channel, el rey, EPIX, epsn, food network, galavision, hgtv, IFC, Mad Men, Sling TV, The Walking Dead, TNT, travel channel, WE TV
