DramaFever and Hulu to Host Top Spanish Mini-Series
Today, the international streaming video service DramaFever announced its exclusive online licensing and distribution deal for Spain’s leading series, “El Tiempo Entre Costuras.” Indicating the show’s huge international fan base, the deal lets audiences watch the series in HD on DramaFever for the first time, legally and with English subtitles.
Since DramaFever stands as the top provider of foreign-language content to Hulu, this deal shows the push towards Spanish-language described at their Newfronts presentation this morning. “El Tiempo” is a great series for the network to use in its efforts to increase its Spanish repertoire, as the series has won six different awards, from the Spanish Actor’s Union in 2014 to the Fotogramas de Plata, also this year.
The title translates to “The Time in Between” and marks an 11-episode adaptation of an internationally best-selling novel of the same name (translated back into Spanish, of course), which came out October of last year in Spain. The most watched TV premiere in Spain, the mini-series got over 5 million views with its first episode.
The show will begin airing online at DramaFever on July 4, 2014, with additional syndication through Hulu. Staring award-winning Spanish actress Adriana Ugarte as a young seamstress who finds herself working in Morocco after she leaves Spain in time for the Spanish Civil War, where she meets high-profile clients from both sides of the brewing World War II conflict.
“El Tiempo” marks the 38th Spanish-language TV series streamed on DramaFever with English subtitles. Approximately 30% of the platform’s visits are driven by Hispanics, mostly between the ages of 18 and 24.
