DramaFever Unveils Its Second ‘Original’ Series

/ Oct 9, 2014

DramaFever has its second original series.

The online video streaming service, which focuses on bringing popular international shows to the US market, has partnered with Korean broadcaster KBS to co-produce the drama “Tomorrow’s Cantabile,” based on the popular Japanese manga “Nodame Cantabile.”

The series will premiere in the US, as well as throughout North America and South America, exclusively on DramaFever on October 13. These episodes will be subtitled in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and will be available within 24 hours after they air on KBS2 in South Korea. Later on, the subtitled episodes will also be syndicated to Hulu.

This co-production follows last year’s premiere of “Heirs,” DramaFever’s first “original” series, which is produced in partnership with Hwa & Dam Pictures.

“Tomorrow’s Cantabile” is described as a romantic comedy about two very opposite individuals: an elite, meticulous musical genius and a messy, out-of-control pianist. Through a series of events, the odd-couple team up with a group of eccentric musicians to create a classical band, and in the process, grow closer to each other. Joo Won (“Bridal Mask”) and Shim Eun-Kyung (“Miss Granny”) will play the leads.

“DramaFever is celebrating its fifth anniversary with more fall premieres than ever before, and ‘Tomorrow’s Cantabile’ is the perfect addition to our lineup,” said DramaFever co-founder and co-CEO Suk Park in a statement. “It’s the ‘Odd Couple’ meets ‘Boys Over Flowers’ meets ‘Glee’ (but instrumental!), and we expect it to be very popular with viewers around the world.”

Initially, the show will be sponsored by the Almond Board of California. Per the deal, almonds will be incorporated into 15 episodes of the show.

Earlier today, we reported that DramaFever has held acquisition talks with various suitors, including AMC, RTL Group, and IAC.
