Fail Army Crew Jukin Media Locks Three-Part Deal with Maker Studios

Maker Studios has entered into a multifaceted partnership with Jukin Media, a company that’s made a business out of finding and acquiring viral YouTube clips, and then licensing those out to TV networks, brands, and other media companies.

Per the deal, Maker Studios will now manage Jukin’s network of 30+ channels on YouTube, which includes the very popular fail-video brand Fail Army (more than 4.9 million subscribers). Overall, Jukin Media’s YouTube network generates over 400 million views per month.

Additionally, Maker says it will develop and launch a website for Fail Army, using the web platform and video player the company brought over when it acquired Blip last summer (remember that?).

Maker and Jukin also plan to co-produce a range of “high-value shows and formats” employing the user-generated clips in Jukin’s library. These shows will star Maker talent, and will be distributed to multiple platforms, including television.

On the latter front, neither company specified what sort of television distribution will be available for their co-productions — whether they would look for linear partnerships or simply make it available via connected TVs.

That said, Jukin certainly has relationships with multiple television networks. Clips discovered and owned by Jukin have so far appeared on shows such as MTV’s “Ridiculousness,” as well as on other major cable networks like Comedy Central, CNN, and ESPN.
