Fandango to Debut Movie-Focused Channel on Hulu

Hulu gets rid of the plus

Fandango is coming to Hulu. The movie service, owned by NBCUniversal, plans to launch a new “movie discovery” channel on the video site, which is partially owned by NBCUniversal parent Comcast.

Set to launch within the first quarter, it will be available to all Hulu subscribers at hulu.com/fandango, and will offer original programming centered around popular feature films.

This VOD partnership is a first for Fandango. It comprises original series like “FrontRunners,” in which Dave Karger (the company’s “chief correspondent”) interviews stars nominated for Golden Globes like Emma Stone, Michael Keaton, Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke, and more. Karger will appear in another show, “Weekend Ticket,” in which he’ll recommend movies on a weekly basis.

“Reel Kids” and “Mom’s Movie Minute” constitute the more family-oriented original series on the channel. In the former, kids will give their take on movies (kind of like “Kids React” but with feature films?), while in the latter, parents will give opinions on whether movies are kid-friendly or not.

Having recently bought up MovieClips, a YouTube network that features movie trailers, Fandango currently has over 9.5 million subscribers on the open video site. The company reports that its online and mobile network combines to get about 30 million monthly uniques.
