Former WME Agent Charles King Bolsters New Content Firm with Three Key Hires

Former WME agent Charles King, who recently left the Hollywood agency to start a multicultural content venture called Macro, has made three key hires for his new business.

The founding executive team will include Macro’s senior vice president of development and production Poppy Hanks, acting chief financial officer Ron Hohauser, and vice president of digital and business development Michael Palank.

Hanks was most recently a SVP at Tyler Perry’s 34th Street Films. At Macro, she will focus on “cultivating emerging and established talent,” as well as developing projects for film and TV, the company said. At 34th Street, her credits included developing films such as “For Colored Girls.” Prior to 34th Street, she was at State Street Pictures, where she developed “Barbershop,” “Men of Honor,” and “Notorious.”

Hohauser was most recently CFO at Summit Entertainment, where he oversaw financial operations, human resources, information technology, and investor relations.

Palank comes from Overbrook Entertainment, where he focused on creating new business ventures in areas ranging from film and TV to social media and consumer products. He’s also a former William Morris agent.

At Macro, he will focus on business development and strategy at the intersection of content, technology, and brands.

All three executives will be based in Los Angeles.

Launched earlier this month, Macro’s focus is on producing film, TV, and digital content for African-American, Latino, and other multicultural audiences. The company says it plans to work both within and outside of the traditional entertainment ecosystem to make this happen.
