Fox Sports Moves Its Top Web Star to TV

Katie Nolan, host of “No Filter,” an online series produced by Fox Sports, is headed back to TV.

Fox Sports has greenlit a new weekly show called “Garbage Time with Katie Nolan,” which will be hosted by Nolan as she provides her take on the biggest and most interesting sports stories of the day. Based on Nolan’s work on “No Filter” and armed with a half-hour running time, the TV series will feature a rotating panel of guest commentators, celebrity guests, and various field segments where Nolan ventures outside of the studio.

Set to premiere on Sunday, March 15 at 9:30pm ET, the series will be taped on the same day, and air on Fox Sports 1 following the network’s MLS “Match of the Week” broadcast.

“I’m very excited to be making the move from internet to television,” Nolan said in a statement. “Because you know what they say: the internet is a dying medium. But really, we’ve been working on this for months, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with everyone.”

Nolan is no stranger to Fox Sports 1. She was one of the hosts, alongside Regis Philbin, on “Crowd Goes Wild,” a panel-based talk show that launched alongside Fox Sports 1 last year.

Once that show was canceled, Nolan made the move to the web, where she hosted “No Filter,” which aired daily on and YouTube.

Prior to Fox Sports, Nolan produced and hosted a YouTube series called “Guyism Speed Round” for the male-oriented site Guyism, which is part of Fox Sports’ Yardbarker Network.

“Garbage Time” will be produced by Embassy Row Productions for Fox Sports 1. For those unfamiliar, Embassy Row is behind Jerry Seinfeld’s “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” for Crackle, and is producing Grace Helbig’s talk show for E!.

Meanwhile, Fox Sports Digital continues to grow “The Buzzer,” a short-form video series that it launched last year in an effort to grow the brand across social media channels. According to a report by Awful Announcing, Fox Sports has poached Kristen Balboni, a researcher on ESPN’s “Mike & Mike” radio/TV show, for a role on “The Buzzer.” It’s unclear what she will be doing, though the report said the position includes a “major digital and video presence online” as well as a potential presence on Fox Sports 1.
