Fox Sports Taps Burst to Power Mobile, Social Video
Mobile video startup Burst will now power the mobile video experience for Fox Sports Regional Networks. The division of Fox Sports has struck a multi-year licensing deal with Burst to use its technology for original mobile and social video creation and distribution.
Specifically, with Burst’s tech, Fox Sports will be able to quickly create short-form videos — such as “behind-the-scenes” content from games as well as analysis from on-air talent — and then push those clips across Fox Sports’ digital and social channels in real time.
Burst offers what is essentially a collaborative platform that allows multiple people to upload, package, edit, and publish digital video content.
Regional Networks is the TV home for 44 MLB, NHL, and NBA team, and employs “a dozen or more” people at each game. This group of people, which include reporters and producers, will use the service to provide additional footage that complements the live broadcast.
“The key feature with Burst is the ability to have multiple people collect video that shows up in one video player,” said David Mortlock, VP of Fox Sports Regional Networks. “All of these people, from our production team to our digital writers, can now help capture the energy and passion around the team leading up to game time.”
