Netflix wants to be on your cable box. And next week it will be — as long as you have a TiVo box and are a customer of these three smaller cable companies: Atlantic Broadband, Grande Communications, and RCN.

Netflix Sets Premiere Date for Final Season of ‘The Killing’

The final season of “The Killing” will premiere on Netflix on August 1, 2014. Created by Veena Sud, the crime drama has had an interesting history with Netflix. After being canceled after two seasons on AMC, Netflix swooped in to save the show. The streaming company agreed to pay a premium to have earlier access to a proposed third season after the season finale had aired on AMC. This allowed AMC to save costs and greenlight a third season.




Hulu Launches ‘Remote Control’ Experience for Plus Users

Hulu has released a new “remote control” capability to connect Hulu Plus on iOS and Android devices to Hulu Plus on connected gaming consoles like Xbox One, PS3, and PS4.





Mobile Gaming + Apps

Google‘s Chromecast added more than 100 channels of free web video, and a navigation guide from MediaMail Technologies’ PlayOn. The $35 device already includes apps from Hulu Plus,Pandora and HBO Go since it launched last July.

Earlier today, Amazon revealed its 2014 first quarter earnings and the news for investors was quite good. Analysts had predicted revenue of $19.4 billion, however Amazon reported that revenue went beyond that to $19.74 billion.

True Blood‘s Sam Trammell is set as a male lead in Amazon Studios’ dramedy pilot Cocked from Lie To Mecreator Samuel Baum. Baum co-wrote the project with Manhattan creator Sam Shaw. Trammell will play Richard Paxson, a Washington DC management consultant who’s estranged from his father and brother but is pulled back in to the fray of his family’s gun manufacturing company after a corporate rival, run by their uncle, moves to take them over. Trammell is repped by Innovative Artists.



Netflix Has Taken Its War With Comcast To A New Level

Comcast and Netflix have been fighting for months, and things just got worse. In February, the two companies cut a deal that should ensure quality television and movie streams for Comcast customers for the foreseeable future.

Amazon Revenue Up 23% On Tripling In Prime Video Usage

Amazon’s video strategy seems to be paying off: “Video streams on Prime Instant Video nearly tripled year over year,” the company said. Amazon has approved six new original series in addition to a series of half-hour comedies from cult director Whit Stillman.
