Webby Awards founder Tiffany Shlain is back with season two of her forward-thinking series, “The Future Starts Here,” on AOL On (in the “tech” section).

Debuting tomorrow, October 23, the first episode focuses on the scientific study of dreams, which will come out along with episodes two through four. Subsequent episodes will roll out on AOL’s video platform on Wednesday, November 19 and Wednesday, December 3.

Season one of “The Future Starts Here” gained over 20 million views as well as an Emmy nomination, says AOL. With season two, as Shlain told VideoInk, “We took a lot more creative risks.”

This spans concepts explored in the new season like Freud’s notion of the “uncanny,” which Shlain finds particularly intriguing in its application to modern technology. In episode three of “The Future Starts Here,” season two, Shlain asks “when and why people get uncomfortable or used to a new technology” à la Freud, Robots, and Google Glass.

However, in Shlain’s personal life, disconnecting from the sometimes overwhelming world of tech proves just as important as staying up-to-date. In fact, her show’s second season debut episode, “A Case for Dreaming,” delves into this. “I explore how important to creativity and productivity it is to let your mind wander,” she explained. “As we rush into the future, we need to remember to turn off devices and give ourselves space to let our minds wander, too.”

Overall, Shlain’s work examines the good and the bad sides of technology and its future. She wants to get a central message across via “The Future Starts Here.” “Don’t forget to be present,” she reminded.

Here’s an exclusive sneak peek at the second season of “The Future Starts Here”:

Verizon sponsors Shlain’s colorful, tech-focused series, which is produced by The Moxie Institute.
