Global YouTube Channels for ‘X Factor’ and ‘Got Talent’ Will Include Original Content

/ Oct 4, 2013

FremantleMedia has entered into a deal with Syco Entertainment, a joint venture between Simon Cowell and Sony Music, to launch “global” YouTube channels for “The X Factor” and “Got Talent” franchises. Syco is the creator and producer of both franchises, which have various versions running in different international markets.

YouTube channels for different versions of both franchises already exist. In fact, the Britain’s Got Talent channel has more than 1.4 billion views, and The X Factor UK channel boasts more than 1.7 billion views, while the America’s Got Talent channel has amassed 177 million views.

These new global YouTube channels will serve as hubs for content from any and all versions of either franchise. Mainly, the channels will offer popular and buzz-worthy TV clips from the shows. Though the deal also includes plans for Fremantle and Syco to produce original content for both channels. These will be anything from formatted spin-off shows to weekly round-ups and curated playlists of terrific and terrible auditions.

It appears Fremantle and Syco will also work together to sell sponsorships and ads for the channels. In explaining the opportunity for brands to reach the massive audience that each franchise attracts, the companies point to how popular some of the biggest “Got Talent” and “The X Factor” moments have been online. Primarily, Fremantle and Syco point to Susan Boyle’s famous performance on “Britain’s Got Talent,” which to date has collected more than 100 million views on YouTube.

Currently, “The X Factor” airs in 25 different territories worldwide. Fremantle and Syco also recently launched the 55th different version of the “Got Talent” series.

Fremantle says it will work closely with its 22 production hubs from around the world to builde and manage the channels.
