Grace Helbig Named MTV’s Vlogger of the Year
MTV has named Grace Helbig Vlogger of the Year, which given her landmark 2013, shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Interestingly though, the vlogger — who goes by DailyGrace online — has found herself at a crossroads as the year winds down. We reported last month that Helbig, due to failed negotiations with My Damn Channel, would be leaving the comedy network. Unfortunately for Helbig, the DailyGrace “brand” is in fact the property of My Damn Channel.
To Helbig’s credit though, she has been building out her name beyond DailyGrace. As seen with the film “Camp Takota,” Helbig (along with co-stars Hannah Hart and Mamrie Hart) can draw in crowds on her name alone. Looking at promotional material for the film, Helbig is never mentioned as “DailyGrace.” In fact, the film does an outstanding job of distancing its stars away from YouTube, especially as it was released exclusively through VOD service VHX.
So what’s next for Helbig?
As evidenced by her MTV nod — a nod given based on fan-generated votes — Helbig can draw a crowd. This is backed by the fact that the vlogger has broken into off-platform events with great success. Her “#NoFilter” tour (also with Hart and Hart) has been selling out venues across North America.
On Wednesday we reported that the latest “#No Filter” shows had all sold out, which added up to around 2,300 total tickets sold across four dates. Clearly, Helbig has engagment power beyond her DailyGrace brand. What she plan does to do in 2014 with that level of engagement is anyone’s guess, but I think it’s safe to say it will be big.Tags: #NoFilter, Camp Takota, DailyGrace, Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, MyDamnChannel, youtube
