Hank and John Green’s Project for Awesome Raises $869,000+ for Charities
From December 17-18, the Vlogbrothers hosted a live event where creators were asked to submit videos promoting a charity of their choice. During the two-day drive, viewers could donate money via Indiegogo for a variety of rewards, including commemorative coins, exclusive t-shirts, and a movie poster from upcoming film “The Fault in Our Stars,” which was adapted from John’s best-selling novel of the same name.
The Indiegogo campaign was responsible for $721,696, with the rest of the funding coming from private backers. The total amount will be divided up among the charities represented by the top 10 user-submitted videos. According to the Vlogbrothers, 100% of the proceeds will go to charities “less the cost of perk manufacturing, shipping, Indiegogos fees, and merchant (credit card) fees.”
At $721,696, Project for Awesome 2013 is the most-funded indiegogo campaign in history. Coincidentally, sitting just below it at $404,026 is YouTube news outfit The Young Turks’ campaign to build a new studio.Tags: Hank Green, indiegogo, John Green, Project for Awesome, Vlog Brothers, youtube
