Netflix Sets Premiere Date for ‘Marco Polo’ — Plus First Images
Netflix will premiere its first historical drama, “Marco Polo,” in all territories on December 12, 2014.
The series, which was originally developed by The Weinstein Company and Electus for Starz, follows the adventures of the famous explorer in Kublai Khan’s court in 13th century China. Stars include Italian newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy as Polo and Zhu Zhu (“Cloud Atlas”) as Polo’s love interest.
Series creator John Fusco (“Hidalgo”) serves as an executive producer alongside Harvey Weinstein and Ben Silverman. Dan Minahan (“Game of Thrones”) is also executive producing and directed two episodes of the 10-episode first season. Other executive producers and directors include Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), while Patrick MacManus co-executive produced, and Collin Creighton produced on behalf of The Weinstein Company.
