Hulu to Exclusively Stream Australian Soap ‘Neighbours’
The longest-running daytime drama in Australia has found a home in the US — Hulu.
The streaming platform has cut a deal with FremantleMedia International to exclusively stream new episodes of “Neighbours.” Beginning July 14, a new 22-minute episode will be available in the US on Hulu and Hulu Plus every weekday. These episodes will be going live four weeks after their initial broadcast in Australia.
The US premiere week will also coincide with a new story arc starring former “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul. The premiere week also marks the beginning of a number of new plotlines on the show, which producers hope serve as a good entry-point for new viewers.
Distributed by FremantleMedia International, the soap is produced by FremantleMedia Australia.
First broadcast in 1985, with more than 6,800 episodes under its belt, “Neighbours” has booked an array of top actors and celebrities during its run. Former cast members include the likes of Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Margot Robbie, Liam Hemsworth, and Russell Crowe, before they made it big in the US.Tags: digital distribution, FremantleMedia Australia, fremantlemedia international, Hulu, hulu plus, Licensing, Soap Opera
