Hulu Grabs Exclusive Streaming Rights to FX Drama ‘The Bridge’
Hulu Plus is now the exclusive streaming home for the first season of “The Bridge,” a critically-acclaimed crime series on FX starring Demian Bichir and Diane Kruger.
Co-produced by Shine America and FX Productions, “The Bridge” centers on two cops from neighboring towns that border each side of the US-Mexico divide. The first season follows their search for a serial killer working both sides of the border, following the death of an anti-immigration US judge whose body is found on a bridge that connects the towns.
An adaptation of the European drama “Bron/Broen” (which focuses on the Denmark/Sweden border and is also exclusive to Hulu in the US), the American version has been honored by the Peabody Awards and the Critics’ Choice Television Awards.
Hulu’s deal with Shine International, which is handling distribution for the series, brings the entire first season (13 episodes) to the subscription video service. This is all in advance of the second season, which premieres on July 9. As part of the deal, Hulu.com will also be able to offer “limited promotional episodes” for the upcoming season.
Executive producers for “The Bridge” include Shine America’s Caroyln G. Bernstein and Filmlance’s Lars Blomgren. Filmlance, a subsidiary of Shine Group, produced European version of the drama in partnership with Denmark’s Nimbus Film Production.Tags: digital distribution, Filmlance, FX, fx productions, Hulu, hulu plus, Licensing, Shine America, Shine Group, Shine International, SVOD, The Bridge
