Hulu Nabs Exclusive Rights to More TV Shows from Disney/ABC

/ Dec 16, 2014

Hulu might be spending more on high-profile original series, but it’s certainly not at the expense of beefing up its TV library.

The company has signed a new licensing deal with Disney/ABC Television, which will give Hulu exclusive SVOD rights to all episodes of ABC’s “Resurrection” and “Mistresses,” as well as previous episodes of Lifetime’s “Devious Maids.”

For “Mistresses,” Hulu Plus users currently have access to all episodes of season one. Season two will become available ahead of the season three premiere, which is scheduled for summer 2015. Following that, new episodes of the show will be streamable on Hulu the day after they air.

Similarly, the entire first season of “Devious Maids” is now on Hulu Plus, with all second-season episodes showing up prior to the season three premiere next summer.

The pact also covers over 750 library episodes of shows from ABC Studios and ABC Family. Titles include “Melissa & Joey,” “Alias,” “Army Wives,” “Body of Proof,” “Twisted,” and “Make It or Break It.” For kids, animated series from Marvel including “Spider-Man,” “X-Men,” and “Iron Man: Armored Adventures” are also available.

It’s the latest wide-ranging licensing deal Hulu has signed with a major TV programmer. Last month, the streaming company announced a deal with Discovery Communications to exclusively license its Emmy-winning hit “Deadliest Catch,” as well as a broad array of programming from Discovery-owned networks.
