Hulu Names New CTO: Sony Exec Tian Lim
Former Sony and Microsoft executive Tian Lim is set to join Hulu as its new chief technology officer.
Most recently, Lim was the SVP of product engineering at Sony Network Entertainment International. There, he oversaw all North American engineering and service operations. His team led client and service engineering for the PlayStation Store on the web, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4, as well as many of the network features of the PlayStation 4.
Prior to that, Lim was at Sony console rival Microsoft, where he led development for the Xbox Live service, Xbox 360 operating system, and Kinect.
This is all to say, Lim has an existing relationship with the Hulu team, having worked with the video company to bring Hulu Plus to the PlayStation.
“We now serve over five million Hulu Plus subscribers, with roughly 50% of those subscribers streaming exclusively on devices, with living room viewing accounting for over half of all content consumption on the service,” said Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins in the announcement. “That’s in addition to our 30 million monthly users on the free Hulu service. Tian’s depth of experience working on the leading technology platforms and devices in the marketplace, will be invaluable as we scale and, simultaneously, continue to provide the best user experience possible across every platform – living room, mobile and web.”
Lim will start at Hulu on March 3.Tags: Exec Moves, Hulu, hulu plus, Microsoft, Mike Hopkins, Movers, PlayStation, playstation 4, sony, Tian Lim, Xbox, Xbox Live
