IAB Unveils 2015 Newfronts Lineup, with Newcomers Fullscreen, Discovery, and Machinima
The initial 2015 Digital Content Newfronts schedule features many familiar names, as well as some newcomers including Fullscreen, Machinima, and Refinery29.
The schedule was released by the Interactive Advertising Bureau, which organizes and oversees the annual digital programming showcase in New York City. The 2015 version, like the 2014 calendar, will span two weeks, beginning Monday, April 27, with The New York Times, and ending Wednesday, May 6, with IAB’s own research presentation on the rise of original digital video programming.
All six of the DCNF founding partners — AOL, DigitasLBi, Hulu, Microsoft, Yahoo, and YouTube — will be back.
Microsoft’s inclusion is an interesting one, as the company recently shut down its Xbox Entertainment Studios division, which was the central piece of its 2014 presentation. When closing XES, Microsoft said it wants to refocus its operations on its core internet, software, and video game businesses. (So don’t be surprised if Microsoft’s 2015 Newfront is more about the video tech and services it has, than any original content it’s no longer producing.)
Curiously missing from the initial calendar: Facebook, which earlier reports suggested would be joining the party. While the company was in discussions with the IAB to present next year, it ultimately decided not to, according to the IAB.
IAB says it expects more companies to join the fold in the coming weeks.
