IAC Forms Electus Digital, A Merger of CollegeHumor and Select Electus Properties
IAC is doing a little bit of organizational restructuring among its video properties.
The online media company, which owns or invests in video businesses like Vimeo, CollegeHumor, Aereo, and Electus, is merging CollegeHumor Media with select properties from its multiplatform entertainment studio Electus. The new business division, Electus Digital, will spearhead the development and production of new content across platforms — not just digital — and geared toward reaching 18- to 34-year-olds.
Headed up by Electus COO Drew Buckley, the division will comprise of all CollegeHumor properties, including the newly launched full-service production shop Big Breakfast.
Led by Sam Reich, who most recently was president of original content for CollegeHumor, Big Breakfast is tasked with expanding beyond just online video to develop feature-length films, TV programming, and various “new-media projects” for Electus Digital. In fact, the unit has been put in charge of Electus’ partnerships to produce content for partner channels and platforms. This includes the development deal Electus inked with TBS to co-produce a TV version of the hit web series “Jake & Amir.” That said, the unit will continue to produce original videos for CollegeHumor.com.
In addition to CollegeHumor, Electus Digital will oversee Dorkly.com; Electus-built properties like WatchLOUD.com and the WatchLOUD, Nuevon, and Hungry YouTube channels; and the production company dumbdumb, which was founded by comedians/actors Will Arnett and Jason Bateman.
In the announcement, IAC said CollegeHumor co-founder Ricky Van Veen will work with Buckley “across creative development and audience expansion” for Electus Digital.Tags: Big Breakfast, CollegeHumor, Drew Buckley, DumbDumb, electus, Electus Digital, IAC, TBS, youtube
