Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’ Gets ‘Approved’ by Pemberley Digital

/ Aug 2, 2013

Bernie Su, Hank Green, and the rest of the team at Pemberley Digital, the company behind “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries” and “Welcome to Sanditon,” are moving on to their next web adaptation of a famous Jane Austen novel.

Pemberley Digital is currently at work adapting Austen’s “Emma” into a web series that will be called “Emma Approved.” Scheduled to launch later this fall, “Emma Approved” will “reimagine the iconic heroine into a bold, ambitious, and audacious female entrepreneur with a self-proclaimed expertise in life-coaching and matchmaking,” according to Su. The character will run a consulting firm — also named Emma Approved — to help improve the lives of others, “whether they like it or not.”

Similar to what Pemberley Digital did with “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries” and “Welcome to Sanditon,” “Emma Approved” will also include social media extensions to keep the narrative rolling in between episodes. But Su sees “Emma Approved”‘s forthcoming use of social media, instead of an expansion, as an evolution of of their storytelling efforts.

Super excited to see this. Emma is such a delightful story. I’m sure this adaptation will be equally wonderful.
