John Goodman Doesn’t Know Where to Find ‘Alpha House’ on Amazon
John Goodman was on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” last night to promote his upcoming movie, “Inside Llewyn Davis” (directed by the Coen Brothers!), and upcoming comedy series on Amazon “Alpha House.” He had great things to say about both projects, but when asked where one could find and watch “Alpha House,” Goodman had no idea.
It’s a funny moment, and shouldn’t be taken too seriously as I’m sure Amazon will do all that it can to let you know where exactly to find its first high-profile TV show.
But it’s interesting nonetheless, especially if you compare Amazon Prime Instant Video to its biggest competitor in the online video space — Netflix. Netflix has made a huge push into original programming over the past year, and everyone in the industry knows about it and what it is.
Mainly, this is because Netflix is just one thing — a video network. You subscribe to Netflix because you want to watch the content that it has. That’s not exactly the case with Amazon Prime Instant Video, which is mostly an add-on benefit for those who subscribe to Amazon Prime. Sign up for Amazon’s free two-day shipping service and you’ll also get access to all this content.
Maybe that changes as Amazon Studios continues to produce more high-profile original shows, but until then, responses like Goodman’s shouldn’t be all that surprising.
