Jukin Media Hires Former MTV Executive to Lead TV Production

/ Jun 3, 2014

Jukin Media has named former MTV and Lifetime executive Jessica Samet as its new head of TV production. She will be responsible for leading the company’s efforts in developing TV formats around its video content.

Jukin is best known for its viral video licensing business, where they acquire user-generated clips that are trending on the web and then license those to digital media companies, publishers, TV networks, and brands. The company works with networks ranging from CNN to Comedy Central.

The company also oversees the Fail Army channel, which currently has more than 5.1 million subscribers on YouTube.

In April, Jukin inked a deal with Dick Clark Productions to bring a half-hour version of Fail Army to international TV audiences.

“Jukin’s video content has a proven appeal for TV audiences,” said Samet in a statement. “The natural progression for the company is to develop its own original formats based on both its successful digital brands, as well as around its truly compelling and unique clip content library.”

Prior to joining Jukin, Samet was SVP of development and original programming at MTV, and was behind shows like “Jackass” and “Viva La Bam.” She has also served as SVP of reality programming for Lifetime.

Samet is the first new hire at Jukin Media following the company’s $1 million financing round from a group of investors that included Maker Studios, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, and Launchpad LA.
