Kickstarter-Funded ‘Fallout: Nuka Break’ Returns for Second Season on Machinima

/ Oct 28, 2013

If you hear about a web series that’s based on a popular current or classic video-game franchise, chances are that the show is available on Machinima. In some cases, the show is produced by the people behind the game, as it was with “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn,” a prequel to “Halo 4” on the Xbox 360. In other cases, the show is the result of some enterprising (and talented) fans who just wanted to make something based on their favorite games.

That’s the case with “Fallout: Nuka Break,” a web series inspired by the popular “Fallout” video-game franchise from Bethesda Softworks.

The first season of the fan-made series, created by gamer/filmmaker Zack Finfrock, was released on YouTube in 2011 and topped 6 million views across seven episodes.

Following that early success (and with the apparent blessing of Bethesda), Finfrock launched a Kickstarter seeking to raise $60,000 to produce a second season of the show. By now, you’ve guessed that he was successful with the crowdfunding effort — in fact, he raised over $130,000.

And now, the entire second season of the show, spanning 10 episodes, is available on Machinima (not going to mention how this aligns with Machinima’s stated business strategy because you already know that by now).

The second season is produced by Wayside Creations and its founder Vincent Talenti, who also directed. Finfrock and Steven Dengler serve as executive producers, with Anthony Clementi and Tybee Diskin handling additional producer duties.

Per the announcement, the new batch of episodes will begin where the first season left off, at the precipice of nuclear destruction. The show follows three characters named Scar, Ben, and Twig, who must make sacrifices to rid the world of a baddie named Leon (clearly I have not played the game or watched the first season, but the second season premiere is really well shot).
