Kingsley Is Also Leaving YouTube in 2014

Kingsley

2014 looks as if it will be the last year for many popular YouTubers. Close on the heels of Ray William Johnson and Philip DeFranco — who recently announced their semi-departures from the platform at the end of the year — vlogger Kingsley took to Twitter to announce that 2014 would be his final year on YouTube. The YouTuber writes:

In addition to DeFranco, Johnson, and Kingsley, Maker Studios co-founder and popular YouTuber Shay Butler (Shaycarl) announced early last year that 2014 would be the first year in which he did not upload daily. In a video announcing the news, Butler explains: “This year, this is day one of year five, the fifteen hundredth Shaytard video on my channel. This is going to be the last year of the daily vlogs.” He adds: “I don’t mean that the Shaytards are going to end after this next year. What we’ll probably do, a three day a week schedule, or like a five day a week schedule.”

While each YouTubers reason for leaving the platform or slowing day-to-day operations varies, the pseudo-departures do come at a time where YouTube, as a platform, is being heavily criticized by both creators and the public.

Relationships wax and wain and the ones talented creators have with the world’s largest video platform are no exception. The question remains will a new platform offer creators what they need to be successful? My bet: a strong mobile solution with fluid community relationship tools wins.
