Lionsgate to Promote ‘Insurgent’ Movie on Samsung’s Milk VR
The VR video, called “Insurgent – Shatter Reality,” will run for four minutes, serving to promote upcoming feature film “The Divergent Series: Insurgent” (that’s number two in the series). The short will star actors in the film such as Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, and Mekhi Phifer.
This content should work particularly well in VR because the movie itself features characters undergoing virtual “simulations,” which viewers of “Insurgent – Shatter Reality” will experience. Both will involve fear—one of heights, as the viewer is positioned atop a “crumbling Chicago skyscraper,” and one of getting run over by an approaching train.
“Insurgent – Shatter Reality” will become available to viewers starting February 27, when it goes on a promotional tour across New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. At this time, the VR video will also be available only on Samsung’s Milk VR platform. On March 1, it will go live across additional platforms and app stores. From March 7 to 8, people will be able to test out the experience at certain US Best Buys.
VR creators Kite and Lightning created the short, which features a score by Joe Trapanese, who composes for the film series. The “Insurgent” movie will come out in theaters on March 20.Tags: insurgent, insurgent - shatter reality, kate winslet, kite and lightning, lionsgate, milk vr, samsung, samsung's milk vr, the divergent series, virtual reality, VR
