Machinima CEO Candidates Include Former Disney Interactive Co-President (Report)
Machinima has been looking for a new chief executive to replace its current one, Allen DeBevoise*. Among those under consideration is outgoing Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants, according to Adweek.
Pleasants joined Disney Interactive, a subsidiary of the entertainment conglomerate that oversees various websites and interactive products, when Disney bought social gaming company Playdom for $763 million in 2010. At the time of purchase, Pleasants was CEO of Playdom, and after the purchase, he joined Jimmy Pitaro in becoming co-presidents at Disney Interactive. This dual leadership setup meant that Pitaro would oversee Disney Interactive’s media business while Pleasants would oversee its gaming units.
It was reported earlier this month that Pleasants would resign from his position at Disney Interactive, while Pitaro would stay on as the sole head of the organization.
As Adweek notes, Pleasants would make a lot of sense as the CEO of Machinima, a top gaming/video network on the web. Pleasants has a strong gaming background via leading executive roles at Playdom and Disney Interactive, as well Electronic Arts, where he was COO.
As Machinima parts with Allen DeBevoise (who will stay on as chairman), as well as his brother Philip and his nephew Aaron, in the coming months, the company will require someone in an operational capacity who understands its “fanboy” audience.
