Machinima Gears Up for New Gaming Series on Twitch
Machinima may be primarily known as a YouTube network, but the gaming-entertainment company has ambitions that go beyond the world’s biggest video site.
For instance, the company struck a deal with the Twitch last November to produce and distribute original content on the live-streaming video service. That deal was and is a good marriage of content, platform, and audience.
As the partnership continues, Machinima is now prepping the Twitch launch of a new reality series called “Chasing the Cup,” which follows two eSports teams as they train and compete in a “League of Legends” gaming league.
“League of Legends” is an online multi-player battle game based on the “World of Warcraft” franchise.
The series will focus on two pro teams, SoloMid and Cloud 9, in the “League of Legends” Championship Series. Beginning with their off-season development and training to the trials and tribulations of competing during the regular season, “Chasing the Cup” will objectively capture what goes into making a successful “League of Legends” team.
“Chasing the Cup” premieres on Machinima’s Twitch channel on February 21. Each episode will be paired with live-studio content in which team members from both SoloMid and Cloud 9 will introduce the show and then participate in a Q&A session with fans afterwards. While Twitch essentially has first-run exclusivity, the show will eventually go to the Machinima VS channel, though the timing of that hasn’t been disclosed yet.
To promote the series launch, Machinima is also programming a themed week of “League of Legends” content, beginning today. Dubbed “LolWeek,” the programming block will consist of new daily live-action and CGI videos created by an array of former “League of Legends” champions. New videos (which are listed and described below) will premiere each day at 9 am PT on Machinima’s Realm YouTube channel.
Here’s the first video and the full list of planned programming around “LolWeek”:
