Machinima and GEICO Set Off on New Travel-Competition Series
YouTube network Machinima is premiering a new series called “AFK” (“Away from Keyboard”), which places creators behind popular gaming channels online each other in a series of real-life competitions.
Sponsored by GEICO and hosted by Bruce Greene, the host and producer of Machinima’s daily news show “Inside Gaming,” the first season of AFK puts the popular open-world game Minecraft center stage. The creators behind two of the top Minecraft channels, Minecraft Universe (2.1 million subs) and Jerome ASF (2.89 million subs), will duke it out in a series of events across the country. This includes a demolition derby in Dallas and a roller-derby bootcamp in Austin, with it all culminating in a showdown at Pax East in Boston.
The first season spans three total episodes, all of which will be available on Machinima’s main YouTube channel.
Two more seasons are planned, says Machinima. Each season will feature two popular YouTube gaming “influencers” battling each other in a series of real-life and virtual challenges that take place across the country. Much like the first season, future seasons will begin in LA, feature flash-gaming challenges and fish out of water stunts, and will culminate in a “fan-engaged scavenger hunt” from the floor of a major gaming expo.Tags: bruce greene, Competition, gaming, GEICO, inside gaming, jerome asf, Machinima, MCN, minecraft, minecraft universe, Reality, travel, youtube, YouTube Creators
