Machinima’s New Xbox One App Will Do It All
Machinima currently has over 203 million monthly views across its massive collection of gaming and male-driven YouTube channels. So naturally, it comes as no surprise that as Microsoft preps the launch of its next-gen gaming console and home entertainment system, the Xbox One, Machinima would want some level of involvement.
Today, multi-channel network Machinima announced an Xbox One-exclusive app that will roll out on November 22, 2013. The Machinima Xbox One app will deliver gaming videos showcasing the gameplay and mechanics of various next-gen titles.
Offering a complete entertainment/MCN experience, Machinima says it will also launch several “tentpole series,” weekly shows, and other types of content through the app. The network already does this on YouTube via its web-series channel Machinima Prime, and game-related channels Machinima and Machinima Respawn.
In conjunction with Xbox One’s proprietary “snap” mode, Machinima has developed “Machinima Wingman,” a game companion that can launch in tandem with whatever title is being played. Using Xbox One’s voice command, players can bring up Wingman, which will recommend curated Machinima videos, guides, and more.
Machinima has also hinted at its forthcoming involvement with the Xbox One Guide and second-screen technology Xbox One SmartGlass.
Kathy Styponias, general manager, interactive entertainment business at Microsoft explained that Machinima was one of the company’s first partners to integrate the Xbox One’s unique architecture and technology into its Xbox app. This, of course, ties into Microsoft’s overall goal of turning the Xbox One into an all-encompassing entertainment system. With Machinima’s involvement, it seems the tech giant is one step closer to completing its vision.
