Maker Studios Reclassifies Its Creator Network Business

/ Jun 26, 2014

Maker Studios is renaming its creator-network business Maker Gen.

Comprised of more than 50,000 YouTube creator partners, Maker Gen includes channels from Maker’s RPM Network, which has been folded into the new network brand.

Overall, Maker says it works with more than 55,000 content creators. The 5,000 that don’t belong to Maker Gen “have successfully established themselves as brands with large audiences and benefit for other Maker services,” the company said in the announcement.

Going forward, Maker Gen will be the name of the company’s larger MCN business. Maker says it will welcome creators from platforms other than YouTube to Maker Gen, and open up various opportunities around collaborations, resources, and development.

Those within Maker Gen will also fall into three different types of classes.

Tier one, called “Elements,” will focus on creators just beginning the process of getting their work out to the masses. Next, the “Evolve tier” will help the creators who are starting to gain traction with the viewing public. Lastly, the “Emerge tier” houses the Maker partners who have made it as widely recognized talent.

In addition to the Maker Gen announcement, Maker has also unveiled Maker Shop, a store for creator-related merchandise.

Maker Shop replaces Rodeo Arcade, Maker’s former merchandise hub. The re-launch marks Maker approaching a more consistent brand image, so that consumers will know the Maker brand when they see it. The e-commerce store develops products exclusive to the designs of individual Maker talent, as well as other original items created by the brand. The online shop currently houses clothing and accessories that relate to over 150 creators, series, and brands on YouTube.
